Girl Scout Programs

In partnership with the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts, Adventure In Adventure Out offers the following adventures to Girl Scouts and their families for the 2016/2017 season!

Sept. 17th - GPS Scavenger Hunt Challenge

GPS ButtonA cross between geo-caching and the Amazing Race, technology meets the natural world in this exciting combining hi-tech skills, team challenge and the thrill of finding hidden locations in the outdoors! Participants use GPS units and secret clues to locate place cards hidden throughout the landscape. As they journey teams encounter puzzles, riddles and team challenges that put their wit and teamwork to the test! Teams draw on multiple skills and abilities to complete the course enabling each participant to shine. Teams will be created on the day of the activity.

Sept. 24th - Rock Climbing at Rose Ledges

Rock Climbing ButtonChallenge your own perceived physical and mental limits as you scale the rocks of the Pioneer Valley. This day is designed to provide exceptional safety, and meet the needs and desires of each individual participant. This location offers a variety of routes that meet any ability – beginner to advanced – as well as an exceptional view from this rocky ledge through the tree tops! Top-rope climbing is also a great exercise in building trust while working as a team with your belayer and those offering encouragement and support. Along the way, learn knot tying skills, climbing technique, safety systems, and even a bit about the local geology. Be sure to bring a lunch!

Oct. 9th - Fall Foliage Canoeing

Schools Outdoor Adventures HeaderSee the fall colors like never before as their vibrance is enhanced by the reflections across the expansive waters of the Connecticut River. A perfect weekend activity for girls and their families right at the peak color season, this activity is perfect for paddlers of all abilities, even the first-time paddler. Learn paddling skills and river safety, how to use teamwork to steer a canoe, and keep an eye out for eagles, great blue herons, turtles, otter and much more. We might even get a chance to see some animal tracks along the river’s edge! Be sure to bring a lunch!

Oct. 22nd - Huck Finn Rafting Adventure

IMG_4552We will bring one of the most classic tales in American literature to life by as we construct sturdy rafts that can accommodate 4-8 people by building a wooden platform that sits atop two canoes. With that as our mode of transportation, we will launch on a local flat-water river for a one-of-a-kind water adventure. The rafts are easy to paddle and make great platforms for a series of games we’ve created that are a blast! These platforms can also be adapted to receive wheel chairs offering a completely unique water experience. Be sure to bring a lunch with you!

Nov. 5th - Between a Rock and a Hard Place Local Caving Adventure

IMG_2338 (small)When you slip through the door into the world of the subterranean it is like landing on an entirely different planet. Caving, otherwise known as spelunking, is a unique and often pinnacle experience that explores the mysteries of the world below us. On this day we’ll visit a small fissure cave that is formed like a spiral staircase going deeper into a stunning rock formation local to the Pioneer Valley. Also, keep an eye out for our other caving adventure in May, where we’ll take a trip to NY to visit a cave with ¾ of a mile’s worth of wild limestone passages! Be sure to bring a lunch with you!

Jan. 21st - Animal Tracking Adventure: Bobcats, Porcupines and Moose, Oh My!

otter tracksIn the fields and forests animals leave clues and messages about their behavior. Learn to read the clues and reveal the stories of our four legged friends. This experience will engage all five senses as participants use active observation, inquiry, critical thinking, and imagination to decipher the habits, thoughts and behaviors of moose, bobcats, coyote, porcupine, bear, deer, racoons, otter, beaver and much more. We’ll have a fleet of snowshoes available of participants as well! Be sure to bring a hearty lunch with you!

Feb 11th - Quabbin Snow Shoeing Adventure

Come on a winter adventure using snowshoes provided for you. We’ll have a blast playing in the snow, tracking animals also moving through the snow, and leaving giant foot prints behind in our own path! Be sure to bring a lunch!

May 7th - Spring Outside Kayaking

Fall 2014 061 smallA perfect way to get out and enjoy the warmth of spring after being cooped up indoors all winter! A great experience for paddlers of all skill levels, learn paddling techniques, river safety and how to navigate a single-person powered vessel. We’ll get plenty of opportunities to play river games, and to explore the wildlife of our surroundings including turtles, blue heron, otters and more! Be sure to bring a lunch!

May 20th - Under the Ancient Ocean Caving Adventure

IMG_2236-001When you slip through the door into the world of the subterranean it is like landing on an entirely different planet. Caving, otherwise known as spelunking, is a unique and often pinnacle experience that explores the mysteries of the world below us. Join us for a full day trip to New York State to explore a limestone cave that was formed at the bottom of an ancient ocean, and has almost a mile of winding passages, chambers and lake rooms! You’ll be able to see the very same stream that carved out the cave still running through it, and will have lots of opportunities to discover the fossils of small ancient sea creatures embedded in the walls of the cave! Van transportation is included for this trip. Be sure to bring a hearty lunch!

All programs will run rain or shine. Programs are subject to cancellation due to under enrollment. All participants will be fully refunded if a program is cancelled. You may choose to cancel for your own reasons 30 days ore more in advance to receive a full refund. If cancelling within the window of 10-30 days from the program date you will receive a refund of 50% of the total cost. If cancelling within 10 days of the program, no refund will be offered.
